It's related to German, tho tbf it's actually more closely related to English. I derived it directly from Proto-West-Germanic, specifically with a lean towards North Sea (read: Anglo-Frisian) dialectisms. It also has a lot of Dutch influence (words like slentren), and some Nordic influence (words like bônn). German is High German taxonomically, while Garish is Ingvaeonic, or North Sea Germanic, so it's closest related to like Low German / Saxon

interesting, do those languages have words similar to "ic," "scüldig," or "fur"?
because things like that are what made it feel German to me

scüldig:
- no modern English cognate, but it would be shildy, and it's related to the word ‘should’
- Low German schuldig, schüldig
- Dutch schuldig
- Danish skyldig

fur:
- English before and for
- Low German för
- Dutch voor, veur (dialectal)
- Danish for
- the expected Garish reflex would actually be ‘for’, but is irregularly derived due to Middle Garish fuckery
