hazel's #albumoftheday #5
quinn - stars fell on trench
this project has been my favourite from quinn for a while, and i've found myself consistently coming back to it within the last year and a half. frankly, it's easy to see why: quinn's hypnotic, almost psychedelic production, combined with a wide variety of unconventional samples, layered vocals, and just plain good songwriting all combine to make a one-of-a-kind album. the cover art serves as a great representation of the music - the disorienting, colourful collage mirrors the music's atmosphere. in terms of the music itself, the album opens with terms & conditions, immediately disorienting the listener with a gospel choir, bernie sanders' distorted voice, and a project pat sample, before going into a beat comprised mainly of minimalistic percussion & vaporwavey pads. the music progresses in a similar high-energy style from here, before stripping back the instrumentals and becoming more introspective at around the halfway point.
