Amateur tactics, here's one better: You put the sharps in a jar with a bit of Cesium in it. Then place a smaller, more fragile closed vial with water inside the jar.

Now you locate the friend and throw the jar next to them. The Cesium explodes at contact with water making a really nice confetti surprise.
