Macau (the gambling capital of the world), which is a special administrative region near Hong Kong, was colonized by the Portuguese, resulting in a creole language called Macanese, which is based on Portuguese, but mixes in Malay, Cantonese, and Spanish

#linguistics I'm looking to learn my partner's language so I can communicate with her family better. They speak Farsi.

I was wondering if anyone had some more universal language learning tips to make the process more approachable?

Otherwise, has anyone learned Farsi and if so what did you do that you would do if you learned it again, and what wouldn't you do?
