Sadists are more like natural disasters than they are like human forces such as an invading army. We should protect ourselves from natural disasters, but evil, which is like, and can actually be, an invading army, is a problem of human organisation.

I know of no problem of human organisation that is not caused entirely by ignorance, the unknown.

It is for this reason that we should understand evil as coming from the unknown.
