I think I heard of Massive Attack from their Teardrop song. That was the opening theme to house md, right? that show was so damn good.

also, i fucking love dreams. As in, I find them so fascinating. Our brain, for some undiscovered purpose, just makes little movies for us to watch at night, as we sleep...how thoughtful!

I've been wanting to do some experiments regarding dreams and see if there is a way to influence people's dreams. Imagine if you could go to sleep and you wake up, in your dreams, in whatever country you really want to visit. of course, it'd only be a simulation of your brain that's why it'd be best to visit places you know really well, like a childhood home or something like that. granted, it'd have to be a lucid dream ofc, but how cool would that be?

Seconding the dream statement, it's truly like saving your game, only to start up a new one in another timeline before you come back to the original one (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)

I'm certain they've gotta be doing that already hehe; there is no realm of potential influencing that humans have not tried to conquer, so there's no way they just let your internal dreamscape out of that equation ╰(*°▽°*)╯
If they haven't yet already, I wonder if one day not only people can influence dreams, but they could also merge on that timeline and join you there, like a secret hangout with the sleepie weepie society

Either way I think people definitely gotta talk more about the internal landscape of their dreams, I love hearing about it!

multiplayer dreaming is a very interesting idea but idk how you'd do it. Perhaps a psuedo-dream state and some invasive "neurolink" sort of tech? But that's quite the techno-dystopian nightmare. I wonder if there is anyway to achieve multiplayer dreaming without that.

also, I want to look into what sort of sounds encourage the brainwaves associated with good sleep. If music has the power, then even look into whether or not music has any effect on the type of dream (good or bad) and then open up an establishment with live musicians who play very specific music meant to encourage both good sleep and good dreams. Patrons would come in, pay for their time, maybe we help them along with beers or downer drinks and then serenade them in ways that scientifically promotes sleep and allow them to enjoy a nice restful sleep. Hopefully I'd be rich enough that I won't need to make money off of this and I could extend the service to anyone who needs shelter and good sleep. That'd be the best use of this discovery

I think you'd have to go with the 'tab on the tongue' or 'mushroom in the tummy' route if you wanted to avoid the chip in the brain; if you could get on the same radiowave as your trip buddy with your eyes open, then maybe you could lie down and have the tops of your skulls touching, close your eyes, and enter a daydream to dream dream multiplayer pipeline.

Granted, you'd both have to be in full symbiosis and really good at riding the wave, but I think it's possible!

I have never heard of an idea like this until right now, and I have to say that is a very cool idea. You'd probably need it to be a tavern type situation, where they could book a little room or cot to snooze in, especially cuz being sleepy is more of an impairment than drugs and drinks sometimes (ﾉ*ФωФ)ﾉ Otherwise that would be so fun! The collaborative energy of the people there would probably amplify it too hehe

yk...now that you mention it, I have a story idea where the characters use music to amplify their imagination and have a whole improvised adventure in their heads. Like, they'll listen to jazz while pretending to be in a cafe, smoking a cigarette and solving a mystery, then the music changes and so does their adventure. I've planned each story to just be a different adventure that the two characters are improvising together. Perhaps we can use acid or mushrooms to enter into a pseudo-sleep state and basically have the two participants improvise a dream together, while drowsy. This way, when they get out of the trip, it'll feel like a dream they shared. I wonder if mushrooms work that way though, like if two people talk out loud and trip together, can they have very similar trips? if so, add in a drowsy state and it'll feel like multiplayer dreaming. I'm gonna see if I can find some papers on shared trips.

also, tavern is a pretty cool idea...or an inn and call it "inn-somnaics" lmao

I think that's a great idea; it combines the tried and true hobby of all road trippers and passengers (listening to music with headphones in, head on glass, imagining self in an infinite amount of fantastical scenarios based off the song), with the added layer of exhaustion, and teamwork between two real humans !!!

I think it would take a few times of tripping together successfully before they could consistently connect brain cells, but they could definitely hit a point in where their state of mind is unified enough to be in the same world in-between the space of eyes open and eyes shut (。・ω・。) would definitely be worth looking into papers for it, or even DMT trips for inspiration on imagination interjections !

I don't really feel that much more awake by it, and so what if, I drink some coffee and this time actually observe if it prolongs my awake state, or if I end up crashing anyway...

I have none. Whenever I hear the term psychedelic I can't help but think of Datura and I immediately frighten myself. That drug is genuinely so terrifying. I've only ever heard horror stories about them. OMG what if the answer to this whole problem is Datura? yikes

I also wonder how close the two people have to be, emotionally, for the best results. Like does it have to be best friends of 10 years? husband and wife? Siblings?

Good idea!

I did a fair bit when I was younger; went through many experimental phases back in ye olden days! There's definitely a big spectrum under that category that ranges from "wow I'm having the best time of my life" and "wow this is terrible", but I'd say generally they're a really good time if you're an adaptable person, and responsible in your dosing (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)

Good morning!

I've never done it, and frankly, I'm a lil scared to mess with them recreationally. The only way I would be okay doing them would be to pretend I'm doing them for research purposes lmao. The scary part is the "wow this is terrible" can be very VERY bad depending on which psychedelic you take, like there is no limit as to how terrible things could get if you fucked up and took the wrong dosage or are just having a terrible trip.

lmao yeah it was really late. I tried staying up but at around 7, I decided I'm not built like that and went back to sleep. I just woke up a little while ago lmao. I think im doing alright in terms of being awake. luckily my body runs alright even if I've only slept like 4 or 5 hours, compared to the 8 you're supposed to be sleeping. and no, the pleasure's all mine! Thank you for staying up and letting me yap to you about music and psychedelics and dream-related research!

If you ever were curious, you could just microdose a small amount of mushies; in my anecdotal experience that has been the most effective way to try them with minimal risk for most people! Also, do them solo or around a good person/people, as the external environment can very heavily influence the experience.

The only bad trips I ever had was when I was around 1 particular person; aside from that, all positive!

That's impressive in the sleep department -- good way to maximize the hours in the day (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧ generally the same here, though rebooting in the morning takes longer haha. and absolutely!!! I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day too !!

I watched that show when I was younger. I was def not mature enough for the emotional depth of the later seasons. Perhaps I should rewatch it at some point, but my attention span is so shot. ToT

if they're already trying to see if they can influence dreams, then I'm so interested in reading whatever results they publish. For me, it randomly happened to work. I have spent 7 years living in Belgrade, Serbia, and so one day I was just browsing the streets around my house on google maps street view while listening to russian post-punk, and the room was quite cold so altogether it created a very intense few hours down the memory lane. I fell asleep afterwards and my dream scape seemed very inspired by those images. That was also my first time lucid dreaming, funny how that works

Hahaha, there's definitely a lot of shows where in hindsight, there should've been a bit more regulation on how easily accessible it is to spongey brained young people. Beyond the medical aspect, some of the backstories of the patients are just sad af. I wonder if you'd like it as much on a rewatch; my adjacent show for that era was Bones, and on a rewatch as an adult I could not get through it all lmao

The lucid dreaming part makes sense for that! You must've been mapping out your route subconsciously while you were reminiscing; in theory it would make it easy to lucid dream if you already have an awareness of your surroundings, so you can allocate all your dream tokens on actively interacting with the environment. Did ya do anything of note with your dream liberty, or just lots of wandering?
