I agree with most of this, but I’m about to post something that makes it seem strongly like I don’t.

I disagree with banishing religion though. We should not have it as a goal and we should not even make small steps in the direction of attempting it.

Mostly for two reasons.

Firstly, this has been attempted before. It never ends well. Even the mild attempts only lead to more fervour as people with doubts feel they should ignore those doubts because their love for their community is stronger than their intellectual pursuits.

Secondly, a belief system in humans should be seen more like clothes than tools. Forcing people to wear different clothes than they would choose is always oppressive. Even if you think you are helping by ripping off a woman’s hijab, this will only be a traumatic experience that will make her see the days in hijab as the good times.
