To start with it must be said that the Muslim calendar system starts at the Hijra, which happens about 13 years after Muhammad starts his mission. Hijra means migration. This was an event where Muslims had to flee from the place they initially lived, Mecca, to live in a new place, Medina, which would end up being the permanent base for the fledgling Muslim community.
