Everyone undoubtedly has a sense of disgust ingrained in them for certain things, and it can be hard to pinpoint why and overcome them: people are naturally driven away from things that are uncomfortable for them, especially from new things or things they don't immediately understand. The few people that don't immediately pull back from these are rare, and not necessarily always "good".
To say that you "need to find someone that'll love you for you" is delightful, but mildly delusional and demeaning of the fact that no one person in their right mind will ever be entirely loyal or infatuated with another.
Using alcohol to be lower inhibition (whereby becoming more authentic) is a worldwide experience and useful in moderation, but should never be your only source of authenticity. Clear communication over boundaries, expectations and emotions before any after interactions are often the most effective way of finding what people actually want and think about situations. It sounds cliche, but it's fundamental.
