I think the main trick is Women. looking at alot of my current favorite music, the main thing alot of them have in common, across genres and decades is they are women. Even if they weren't publicly a woman when i first started listening to them. A few artists i really love have transitioned in the years after I first found them.
so many genres, so many amazing women making wonderful music



this really makes me happy because I remember when I was like 12 and struggled to find women in the music genres I liked. (granted i didn't know how to find more niche and not super popular bands because I was 12 but I also think that women in music should not have to be searched for and hard to find. women in music are easier to find now and im really glad about that)
