I have a problem with my manager.
Oddly, I am often the most productive member of my team.
Yet, he has a clear pattern of singling me out for things that other people also do.
I'm a black person and because of the messages we all receive, it can be difficult not to think that plays a role.
That said, he seems to be a loving father and husband.
When his kids convinced him to get a puppy, he was the one that stayed home to take care of it most days.
When he works with people that are beneath him, he appears to take great care to make them feel comfortable without giving the sense that he feels superior.
Seeing the goodness in him, I have stopped arguing and instead invited him to a different resolution.
Recently I said. "Please, I know the destination can often seem unclear with me, but I ask you to have faith."
This changed his entire attitude.
I do have to prod him now and then, but a good person does not require much effort to move them along into the deep hum of being alive together.
