as a person with at least some kind of formal education regarding ai what i can say is that the current technology ai models work by simply doesnt have the means to form some kind of sentience

i'm not in favor of ppl talking to ai, but the definition of being sentient is "able to perceive or feel things."
now an ai can't feel things, but it can see things. Ais have image recognintion technologies, and they are indeed seeing the image as ai's are trained off other bits of data from other images, so it's not like it's encoding the image into binary or smth

How AI works is that whatever input you have is converted into numbers, you do some maths, and then the new number gets converted to an output. The training data is used to make the equations used to do this as accurate as possible, by giving what an expected output would be from a given input. This is a big oversimplification of course, but this is essentially what happens. So yes, the images are encoded into numbers.

yeah i don't really know what i was getting at there cos all input is converted into numbers but counter argument: whatever we see is converted into electrical pulses, which is basically just binary therefore are we not sentient?
