About distros, don't worry about looks, any linux distro is fully customizable if you're wanna to spend some time tinkering. So you can take any distro and make it look however you like.

Basically, beginner friendlines is a bit of a illusion. You'd probably have to tinker with something anyway, so choose whatever sounds fancy.

But, i would recommend for starters any debian based disto, ubuntu, mint, fedora, debian itself. They have more info about them online, and you can easily install .deb packages there.

Or another good option would be to choose arch, or anything arch based, because archwiki is very thorough, and you can find answers to most of your questions/issues.

You know…I’ve heard things about Arch, and I’m very tempted to get a relatively cheap thinkpad and try to load arch on it just to say that I’ve done it. I’m very curious about what that degree of customizability can allow me to make. This is the same reason why I enjoy using customizable browsers. Like Firefox based browsers let you alter the css and customize them to a really fun degree which chromium based browsers just don’t allow.

I wonder what kind of adventures arch would bring…I’d bet it’d be very frustrating though, but a rewarding journey nonetheless.

I’m gonna get arch and wrestle it out till I win! See you in maybe 300 years…actually when I start, I’ll probably rant on here all the time about it. I’ll try not to be insufferable about it, but no promises!

Sure bro, that's the spirit. I personally have Ubuntu installed, but i still remain arch user inside.

Because, i installed Kubuntu, then noticed scaling issues on KDE, uninstalled kde, and all kde-related packages, and rolled on a gnome desktop environmentf from general Ubuntu. It was a hustle, but worked out.

Linux is highly enjoyable, runs much smoother than windows.

Basically, only throwback is if you have to use windows specific software there is gonna be some problems.

So when i have to work from home, i boot into windows, cuz of the highly specialized software i have to use for my job.

It's probably possible to make it work on linux, but I didn't tried yet, and this is gonna ve a huge hustle.

__Linux is better than Windows in anything, except being Windows itself__
