after doing some more digging i tried to buy a deck dock on amazon, found one by baseus for just a single dollar over the minimum for free shipping, tried to check it out, then saw there was a $7 shipping and handling fee. after checking out a few of the actual websites instead of amazon i ended up going with the same dock on the baseus website for the same price ($35.99) but it didn't have any shipping and handling, and i was able to get a 10% discount so it ended up being about $10 cheaper than getting any product from amazon. we'll see how it goes in about a week or two because it said the earliest it'll come is next wednesday. i wish you the best of luck!! also i can answer any questions you have about steam decks in general because i've had one for awhile :)

aaa thank you, this is great to know! i’ve been considering getting a steamdeck or a steam machine to replace my desktop since it’s VERY outdated. how does syncing saved games go to a steamdeck? for example, i have a world in Raft that i’d hate to lose.

it depends on the game, some straight up don't support steam cloud. the only game i specifically know of that doesn't though is Spelunky HD but that came out back in 2013. 99% of your games should just be able to be uploaded through steam cloud and all (or at least most) of your save data will be saved. looking it up Raft does have steam cloud support so you should be good on that. also, on the steam machine i believe they're going to be at least $600 so a steam deck might be a more economical choice, but the prices aren't actually out on it yet so that's just a guesstimate. if you're worried about the steam deck not being a functional computer, it is. it runs on linux which does work differently from windows and might take some time getting used to but it seems as though the desktop mode is a 100% functional, usable computer

last estimates i heard about the steam machine were upwards of €700, and that’s not accounting for the continued increasing of prices for memory and processors, so the steamdeck may very much be the more budgetproof alternative.

i’m not too worried about using it as a functional computer since i also have a windows laptop which has been my daily driver for a while. it’s really more about the games.
