I haven't been to any bars yet- I really want to find a small hole-in-the-wall type place that plays jazz, where there's almost no one, its just the few regulars and me and the bartender. Basically a bar straight out of a murakami novel, or a noir film.

I've heard that about cigarettes, actually. That they give diminishing returns, the buzz of a cigarette gets weaker and weaker and so a smoker ends up smoking more and more to get that same buzz, but it eventually gets to a point where only a small fraction of the cigarettes give you the buzz you're looking for, the rest you just gotta smoke for "maintenance". Learning that has also kinda put me off of trying. Just feels pointless...

actually I lied, I have another addiction - caffeine, but at least caffeine products taste good tho.

If you're near to Ottawa, I've heard there's a lot of speakeasy style bars in Montreal; I haven't been to them myself, but know a couple people who have had very positive things to say about the scenes there!

That's pretty much the case with cigarettes; if I smoke 3+ days in a row, it's a whole lot of nothing. You'd probably get a better buzz by going outside, holding your breath and spinning around until you're dizzy.

Second that on the caffeine; though I'm not addicted, that shit be tasting good af. Are you a regular cafe-goer or at at-home caffeine drinker?

well, tbf im not really addicted anymore. I have one coffee a day, and on some days none at all. Its not exactly a necessity, but that may be because I went off-caffeine altogether like a few days ago, for a whole week. That did help, I no longer have daily cravings for coffee or chai. ig it doesn't help that I make my own coffee at home so all the ingredients are there all the time. Dalgona coffee is just so good!!

I have found a few cafes in downtown ottawa which are pretty cool and I hang out there every now and then...might go to one of them tomorrow actually.

Going to a bar alone is totally fine, you'd be surprised at how many people go just to have a couple drinks after work, listen to the music / watch sports on the TV, and chill before they go home (hence why the row or barstools by the bartender work). Bars, cafe's, and restaurants are normal; I would say clubs are the only one that's slightly weirder.

Ohh that's dope dude! Kudos to you for being able to do a mini detox; it's a socially acceptable addiction, which makes it harder to quit sometimes, so that's dope. I've never tried dalgona coffee, but it definitely looks delicious (☆▽☆)

That's awesome hehe, cafe culture in Ontario is really good I have to say-- so many unique, locally operated places everywhere, so you always have something new to try.

Oh thank you! Yeah, the societal acceptance of caffeine definitely makes it so much harder to quit because no one takes it that seriously. You should definitely try dalgona though, its really simple ato make and really good too!

Luckily, there are a lot of cool little cafes around so I love going to them. My go to order is always a cappuccino with 2 sugars. I feel like that's a good guage for the quality of the coffee sold at the cafe. Do you have any go to drinks that you order at cafes?

Will definitely give dalgona a try; maybe today if I’m not being lazy! I normally get a flavoured latte as my gauge; I have less of a palette for whether it’s a good bean or not, but I can definitely tell a yummy latte from a yucky one ٩( 'ω' )و

Speaking of flavours, btw...OH MY GOD, i bought a flavored creamer a few weeks ago, thinking this'll spruce things up for a little bit. I bought lavender falvor because I really like the smell of lavender and it tasted so fucking bad...like upsettingly bad.

also, for dalgona, I just use instant coffee. I've never really used beans before but I really wanna try beans from Top of the Morning Coffee but I haven't gotten the chance, I also do not have the coffee machines necessary so I just use instant coffee for now. Instant coffee, sugar and some water will get the job done! Let me know what your thoughts when you've had some. It is quite sweet tho, so be warned!
