I feel like that would take away some of the user-generated aspects of the site. Maybe users could list their own webstreams that other people can listen to? It does restrict the feature to people that are able to host audio 24/7 but it introduces no extra load on your servers. Maybe both? Idk man

we would just link to existing internet radio streams. we could allow users to add their own. i need to look into the protocols more and how they work. just a random thought i had and wanted to see what people thought

It's a great idea, but i feel like the streams should (or a part of them) should be user generated too. It would be fucking awesome to open vlc and just start streaming straight to other people :)

(HTTP, MMSH, RTSP, RTP, IceCast (my personal favourite) are the protocols vlc supports by default)
