i would just think that if someone likes you, their actions toward you are based on how much it benefits them. when someone loves you, their actions toward you are based on how much it benefits you.
say for example you're in a dark place, you're not in your right state of mind. someone who likes you will prioritise their reputation in regards of their relationship with you and considers mainly the best outcome for them, which can be supporting what you say without necessarily trying to pull you out, because it's less time consuming and it doesn't ruin their reputation when there's an argument.
when someone loves you, they want to make you the happier person between you and them. therefore even if there is a fight and you are scarred, they consider the benefits you will gain in the future, having better mentality with a better mindset. even if costs their relationship with you, they are willing to sacrifice it all because they love you.
