I think that's fair enough I don't think you're entirely wrong. I guess what I'm seeing from my students is that their foundations are so weak that it doesn't matter how long the sentence is, their brain shuts off by the third word because they're already confused. Like if I say the word "factor" and they don't know what it means but they know they're supposed to, they'll get left behind and won't ask for the definition. I feel like school has made people feel like being wrong or not knowing is the same as being a stupid person
