To anyone who’s a programmer…what, in your opinion, are the CS concepts I should be familiar with before applying to my first programming job? It’s so much harder to study anything when I don’t know how in depth to study…or even what I should study.

Hi! Not a programmer but I am an engineer and end up in coding circlesish online most of the time, along with being a guy with opinions on CS; the best advice I would go for is to actually make something. I do sincerely believe that CS is, at its core all about implementation, if you can talk about something you did--it doesn't have to be anything actually serious, just do something fun that would help you in your life, play Minecraf on a server? Make a database of capitalism on that server if it has capitalism in some form. Make a mod for a game you play, concepts are easy enough to Google, actually making a project being a boots on the ground problem solver? That's what you're being hired for.

I do work on my own projects, the anxiety settles in when I see other people grinding leet code and stuff like that because I don't do that. I'm worried that I'm somehow worse off, or at a disadvantage, if I don't grind 24/7 on leetcode.

I love sudoku so I'm currently researching into sudoku-generation and solving algorithms so that I can make my own sudoku program that has a built in auto-complete or hint feature. I'm also working on gamifying my own to do list app, adding a point system and rewards. I'm also making a small spotify alternative that just downloads music through youtube and lets you organize the songs you've got. I have a few more ideas, but I'm tackling them one by one.

But I keep feeling like I'm not doing enough...it keeps eating away at me and idk what to do about it.
