Well, sailor is a bit far fetched.
I learnt how to sail small 1-3 men boats a long ago, so nothing of a serious thing. Would need to refresh my knowledge though.
As for the wooden vs. metallic boats. To me they are different category.
Wood is usually much lighter than metal, so bigger size with less weight.
Metal (like aluminum or steel) is surely more sturdy, but the weight is just a huge downside. These are for bigger boats.
Also both of these materials seem to be outdated nowadays.
I think with all materials around, fiberglass is much more common, maybe aluminum as well.
These sort of have the good part of both, sturdy and light at the same time.
So probably would choose either, most likely fiberglass.
Also if you get into a big enough storm, nothing matters anyway probably.
Those videos are amazing and I envy those people. But I would not do a solo sail for sure. Maybe with a small crew.
