obviously puberty is a very important topic in a discussion of trans experiences and i've been seeing a lot of trans people describing how horrendous it was to see their body change in ways they hated and it sounds terrifying. but for me it wasn't like that..at all? i kinda never noticed my puberty? and i've been wondering about why is that?

i have a couple theories (in no particular order)

1. here in russia, culturally, puberty is not at all important or even mentioned both irl and in media. i first learned what puberty was after watching into the spiderverse when i was ~14. before that, i had never so much as heard the word puberty.
2. my puberty was gradual enough for me not to notice the changes. obviously now the body/facial hair is killing me but i can't even remember when it first started appearing.
3. my egg cracked when my puberty was already over so i just got used to it by that point.

wonder if anyone can relate cuz i've mostly been hearing how horrific puberty is, whereas for me it's been..meh?

Yeah, it was kinda the same for me, egg cracked at 26, so I was long done with puberty, and didn't notice the changes.

However, I'm being told by my parents that I was a very happy and expressive kid until around I was 11, and after that I can only remember me being a very emotionless spectator to my own life, so I guess it must have affected me subconsciously...

Wow. That makes a lot of sense actually. Gender itself is so culturally specific that if you’re not re-enforced with the idea then it doesn’t stand out.

Do you mind me asking what age you were when you realised you weren’t quite the gender other people assumed or initially told you?

i guess i've suspected something since i was like 10, since i vividly remember wanting to be a lesbian as soon as i learned what that is, but then i repressed it until i was about 16. that's when i fully accepted (at least consciously) that i'm trans and wanna be a girl.
