ai art is art, and you may scream at me for having the wrong opinion, but it's not an opinion. by definintion i am OBJECTIVELY correct. you're just in denial that your future won't be about painting pretty little pictures. ai is getting smarter every day and it WILL replace artists. prove me wrong.

art is something uniquely human. the whole point of art is the intent put behind it and how the artist expresses themselves. it's unique and one of a kind

ai is inherently by design incapable of creating unique works, it's a really fancy copy machine with zero thought or intent

most proper definitions of the word art involve humanity and people in some way, if we're talking about definitions.

ai (as in the generative llms like the ones made by openai) can also only get so smart. the best they can do is slightly worse than a human. copying will only get it to fall short.

ai will also never replace artists, because people crave human art. the need for connection exists in all of us, and art is the greatest way to connect with other people. even if there is no demand for art, people will still create it. people hunger for expression. artists create for themselves first, and then in turn create for the perceiver, and allow the witness to partake in creation through viewing and experiencing

so for a start, if you found an alien planet and those aliens had art would that be art? yes ofc.

art does not need to be made by humans so whatever definintion that involves humans is wrong.

next yes llms and ai can only get so strong, but the same can't be said for agis. although we don't have them yet elon musk and the rest will get them done eventually.

and yes artists can make art for themselves, but it will be obselete.

art is not the greatest way to connect with other people. art is used to portray ideas and thoughts yes, but most ppl will use words anyway. art is mainly used for entertainment purposes now, and yes atm you can tell if something is ai but we won't have some sort of human soul detector.

i agree that my use of "humanity" was a stretch, i meant it in a more broad sense that encompassed life and creativity

agi is science fiction, and a buzzword to get the attention of investors and shareholders. ai today is monumentally far from agi, i wouldn't even say the two are related in any way.

also elon musk is a nazi. if he's good at anything it's convincing the lowest common denominator into thinking he has more potential than he does. and i don't know who "the rest" is, unless you mean elon's favorite austrian artist.

how is art obsolete if it's made for the artist themselves? art is for the self and for others through the self. art will exist even if there are none to see it.

of course people will use words, words are art.

it's not really about if people can "tell" whether something is ai or not. a great artwork is undoubtedly alive.
