Well, it is better to have a dream, than to not have one.

Sometimes I forget to dream.
Also sometimes reality kicks in and I just drop them.

But here it has been positive so far, so people can dream together.

Jokes aside, I would totally do something similar and join that trip.
(If you accept a sailor, at least I could put my sailing knowledge to good use.)

you're definitely right about that.

There is no end to people's dreams, as a pretty cool one piece character once said. So, I thought why shouldn't I dream as well? Who knows? Maybe one day it might just come true.

As for accepting you, of course i fucking would!!
If you're a sailor, you know more about sailing ships than I do lmao, you'd be indispensable to a successful journey! I still need to go to sailing classes whenever I see this dream starting to become possible.

have you seen those videos of crews that take wooden sail boats out onto the sea and actually try to sail from one place to another? I always wonder how a wooden sail boat would fare on the waters and if its just better to be on a metallic ship instead. I mean, obviously its safer to be on a metallic ship because a particularly violent storm can break a wooden ship, the metallic ship would push through and be relatively less damaged.

Also, omg those videos where a person solo-sails across a giant ocean- so cool but so scary!!

Well, sailor is a bit far fetched.

I learnt how to sail small 1-3 men boats a long ago, so nothing of a serious thing. Would need to refresh my knowledge though.

As for the wooden vs. metallic boats. To me they are different category.
Wood is usually much lighter than metal, so bigger size with less weight.
Metal (like aluminum or steel) is surely more sturdy, but the weight is just a huge downside. These are for bigger boats.
Also both of these materials seem to be outdated nowadays.

I think with all materials around, fiberglass is much more common, maybe aluminum as well.
These sort of have the good part of both, sturdy and light at the same time.
So probably would choose either, most likely fiberglass.

Also if you get into a big enough storm, nothing matters anyway probably.

Those videos are amazing and I envy those people. But I would not do a solo sail for sure. Maybe with a small crew.

but yeah lmao you're right, get stuck in a storm bad enough and it won't matter what your boat is made of.

how much more different is it sailing with a bigger crew? like will it be a whole world apart? or is it like just the scale's gone up but it won't take long to get used to it, if you've already sailed in smaller crews?

I wonder about crew dynamics on ships and how difficult those might be to manage. Including who does what. I wonder if crews do emergency/storm drills before they ever get caught up in a storm

Yeah, fiberglass is (has been) very common because of its good properties and variable applications.

These are good questions. Luckily I have never had these, as our instructor had his good eyes on the weather forecast at all times and we were sailing in an area our instructor knew very well.

In my opinion sailing with a crew is much better (for me), as you can work as a team. Usually everyone has their duties and tasks, but you can help each other better in general, but especially when sh!t hits the fan, than when sailing alone.

On the other hand, I can imagine that sailing alone is much more fulfilling.

As with a much bigger crew, I have no idea, but I can imagine that you would need much more attention and organization, so the more you move up in numbers, you take more of the relaxation factor away.

it takes some real balls tho to be able to go out onto the open ocean by yourself and no one else. It may be fulfilling but you'd probably be to stressed that even when its smooth sailing you'd be panicky.

but yeah, either way. I've never really sailed ever, so i suppose that's where I gotta start first. By joining a class. When I have a more stable job, I'll get some sailing classes! I wonder if they have beginner classes for adults.

Yes, sailing alone out in the open is a different thing for sure.
Those people are made differently.

Good idea to find something near your location.
I am 100% sure they have beginner classes, for whoever wants to join.
