Yeah, deltarune does feel more polished as undertale and therefore has better mechanics, undertale does have a kinda rough feeling but it was the firt iteration of the project toby fox had.
It's nice if you still like the story because, from personal preferences and nostalgia I still consider undertale's story as main story and deltarune as a secondary story. Idk if anyone shares the same thought.

Dont hate me for this, but i played deltarune first (havent finished chapter 4 yet dont spoil) i just didnt like undertales mechanics that much, and i know that it has a great story but the gameplay just wasnt that fun for me and deltarune hooked me more
